Our staff had the opportunity to train in Positive Discipline last year and take a refresher course before school started this fall. Here is a great chart that talks about behaviors, walks you through the psychology behind the behavior, our beliefs, and effective responses. Although it refers to "student" behavior, I have a feeling you could apply "my kid" and find the chart just as useful :)
LOVE THIS!!! Thank you for sharing. What a constructive way to get to the root of things and build positive behaviors from there. I love that it's being utilized at school, and I love that I can refer to this at home. So often homework can result in frustration for both me and my child. This chart is a great reminder and helps me acknowledge the feelings behind the behavior and turn things in a positive direction. What a great tool!

So glad to hear it! I keep it on hand constantly at school as a way to talk to students who are struggling, and to think of ways to prevent the behavior from occurring again in the first place. The training also provided us with sentence frames that are helpful when talking to kids "in the moment." I will blog and share about this tool, as well! I encourage everyone to share other strategies they find that work, or struggles they are having at home with all of us!
